Karri Valley Resort on Lake Beedelup in the south of Western Australia. Approximately 7.15pm, looking directly across the lake from the chalets. The setting sun is striking the tops of the trees as the rising shadows start cutting the light off the lower trunks. The calm water and heavenly light are held like this for only a few minutes – A moment of quiet meditative glory that I had to capture and hold.

Toodyay is a small town just east of Perth in Western Australia and it is surrounded by this beautiful country that I have painted a lot in both oils and watercolour. Something about the combination of drab green gum trees, dead skeletal trees, yellow grass and red earth that gets me excited. They all have such character. Add some late afternoon light and everything is perfect

Saplings back-lit by the morning sun rise from a sea of dead leaves beside Kadina Brook at Bushmead Rifle Range. This is one of the first small exploratory studies from this area. Starting as a Plein Air sketch, then worked over to completion in the studio.

Making up part of the Bushmead Rifle Range/Gooseberry Hill National Park area, there is a “field of dead trees” like this. It’s usually covered in Kangaroos towards evening when I’m there, which is quite often – it’s a fascinating place. This painting started as a Plein Air work but the sun when down too soon for me so back to the studio for completion it went.

Otago Peninsula, New Zealand. This quaint little boatshed is one of several along the interesting track called Beach Road that winds its way around Hoopers Inlet to Allans Beach. The hill in the background is a geological landmark called Harbour Cone which is sandwhiched between Larnach Castle on one side and the interesting little waterside village of Portobello on the other.
